Packaging and illustration design for Epicure Oils, a collection of premium cooking oils developed around a custom hand-drawn illustration system. Created with ink and a Chinese calligraphy brush, each botanical illustration gives every variety its own distinctive identity while unifying the collection through a refined and contemporary visual language.
Project Overview
Epicure Oils required a packaging system for a growing collection of specialty cooking oils, including olive, grapeseed, avocado, almond, pecan, sunflower, walnut, and coconut oils.
The challenge was to distinguish each product while maintaining a cohesive family identity across the entire range. Rather than relying on conventional product photography, the visual system was built around original hand-drawn illustrations that communicate the natural origin of every oil.
Inspiration & Concept
The concept was inspired by the expressive quality of hand-drawn botanical studies.
Each ingredient was illustrated individually using ink and a Chinese calligraphy brush, allowing every oil to develop its own visual character while preserving a consistent artistic style across the collection. The restrained black labels provide a strong contrast for the white illustrations, while the golden oil itself becomes an integral part of the overall composition.
The result is a packaging system where illustration functions not as decoration, but as the primary method of product identification.
Design Solution
The visual identity combines original botanical illustration, minimalist typography, and a modular label system that adapts across multiple product varieties.
Consistent layouts establish strong brand recognition, while the hand-drawn illustrations allow each bottle to remain immediately distinguishable. The same illustration language extends naturally into supporting printed materials, creating a cohesive identity across packaging, brochures, and promotional communication.
The final design demonstrates how custom illustration can become the foundation of a scalable packaging system.
